24”x48” acrylic on stretched canvas
Painted from a photograph that I took on the Bighorn River in Montana, this fish was the first of this series. The whole trip my guide repeated, “Sets are free” and you can bet I was takin em. The photograph explores shadows of the net on the trout’s body, atmospheric perspective from the net, and the bright sun popping some of those colors out. This painting is uniquely special to me as it is the first fish I’ve painted in my career.
